I just found out that Four Branches Press, a small press out of St. Louis set to publish their inaugural issue in the spring of 2010, are going to use three of my poems, "illinois route 3," "the autobiography, nearly," and "regret against the backdrop of autumn."

Updates on the career of SIUC fiction writer Pinckney Benedict:
Look for THE MAMMOTH BOOK OF BEST NEW HORROR #20 (ed. Stephen Jones), which contains twenty-one pieces, among them his long apocalyptic story "The Beginnings of Sorrow."
AND, I quote Mr. Benedict here:
"My new collection of stories (and it's a big one: 14 pieces and 80,000+ words of fictiony goodness at last count) will be published in May 2010 by my good friend Kevin Morgan Watson at Press53. It will be called MIRACLE BOY AND OTHER STORIES. And we have a kick-ass cover photo.
It'll be my first volume in 15+ years. Kind of like Halley's Comet - don't miss it or you might not live long enough to see the next one!"

My short short "Other People's Houses" has just been published in the print edition of Crafty Magazine, an online arts magazine based out of Melbourne, Australia.
There will be an online version of the magazine up later this year, and the editor is looking for more short prose pieces, poems, and art of any medium that revolve around this issue's theme, "Around the Campfire."

Some items of note:
Crab Orchard Review has received a Illinois Arts Council Program Grant for Fiscal Year 2010 in the amount of $4300. Given that the arts council has suffered tremendous budget cuts recently, it's quite amazing to have received that amount. Kudos to Jon Tribble for writing the grant proposal.
Poems by Paul Guest (MFA '99) appear in the new issue of BOMB (Number 109, Fall 2009). The poems ("Above" and "Invitation") are in Bomb's Literary Supplement.
"Mr. Blues," Allison Joseph's poetic tribute to the unsung early R&B singer Wynonie Harris, appears in the new issue of North American Review.
Fiction faculty member Pinckney Benedict's graphic fiction "Orgo Vs. The Flatlanders" appears in the new issue of the Idaho Review.

In addition to being in the running for the $1500 First Prize, The Broken Cookies is also up for the Reader's Choice Award. These poems will be posted on the Arc website next week, and readers will be able to read the poems and vote; I won't ask that anyone do so, but c'mon, help a Canadian out, eh.
